Product Labeling

Barnes & Noble requires each item sold in their bookstores have either a UPC or an ISBN barcode. In addition to the barcode, the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) must also be displayed on each item.

  • UPC Labels

    1.625" x 1.25"

    This label size accommodates a 100% size UPC symbol accepted by all retailers, including Barnes and Noble.

  • ISBN Labels

    This label size adheres to Barnes and Noble Vendor Operational Guidelines for ISBN barcode labels.

  • Price Only Stickers

    1.25" x 0.5"

    Vendors are permitted to use a Price Only Sticker if their packaging already contains either a UPC or ISBN barcode.

Incremental Order Quantity Labels (IOQ)

IOQ (Incremental Order Quantity) labels clearly identify individual packs within a Master Carton that contains multiple units of the same item. IOQ labels are easily ordered by email using an Excel-based order form.

Barnes & Noble requires a Master (Outer) Carton Product Label to ensure efficient automated receiving at distribution centers. These labels must comply with Barnes & Noble's Vendor Operational Guidelines.

Global Standards Organization (GS1 US)

The GS1 US is a not-for-profit Standards Organization that develops and maintains global barcode standards and provides unique identifiers. UPCs obtained directly from the GS1 US will work at any retail store or online selling platform.
